Tū Wāhine Trust is one of the few affiliated member groups of the Māori womens organization Te Kakano o te whanau Inc.; working with Māori women, children and whanau affected by rape, incest, sexual abuse and related violence, still providing Māori based counselling, therapy, education and support services. Stella was the last National Secretary for the society and has had the privilege of working with many Kuia and Kaumatua, Māori experts and professionals in this field. As a member of Tū Wāhine Trust she has had many invitations and opportunities to work on various committee’s; locally, regionally, nationally and internationally advocating for Māori wellbeing.

SEXUAL ABUSE SECTOR

In 2002 the kaupapa became one of the social arms of KRITO Trust. Prior to its inception 1988 it was one of 29 affiliated groups of Te Kākano o Te Whānau Inc, a national organisation that worked in the area of rape, incest sexual abuse and related violence. Our vision is to eliminate all forms of violence, restore whānau wellbeing through positive role modelling, building networks and creating positive relationships. Trustees have stayed connected to each other over two decades.

The trustees are currently revamping and revising their sexual abuse training packages for people who wish to work in this specialised field and to raise awareness within the community.

Russell works as a clinician with children, adolescents and men who have committed sexual crimes on children. He works specifically with Māori offenders and has been involved in this specialist work for over 11 years

Korowai Tumanako also provides Sexual Violence Prevention education to whanau and training and supervison for professionals.
